Locksmith Atlanta Since 1965

Locks, keys and door hardware for Metro Atlanta buildings and homes.

Armor Lock & Security, Inc. has provided locksmith services to the homes and businesses of Atlanta since 1965, thousands of customers through all the changes this city has seen.

C1Commercial Locksmith

We are and will always be a commercial locksmith first.

Commercial locksmith service in Atlanta has been our core business since 1965. Working with property management companies and building owners to keep their buildings secure and running smoothly is our core focus.

Commercial locksmiths must be adept at the latest electronic locking systems as well as standard key and lock work. It is just as normal for our technicians to install code locks as it is to work on traditional cylindrical and mortise locks, door closers, door pivots and exit device hardware. We hold weekly training classes so every technician stays on top of the ever changing locksmith industry.

R1Residential Locksmith

Store our number before you need it.

We have been making homes in and around Atlanta secure for over 50 years. We hear many stories about bad and predatory locksmiths, and they almost always involve homes. Take comfort that we have had a physical store in Atlanta since the beginning, and we are fully licensed and insured.

Our residential locksmith services include:

  • Lock Rekey
  • New Lock Installation
  • Home Lock Outs
  • Key Duplication
  • Lock Repairs
  • Safe Opening

Brands we sell and service: Schlage, Kwikset and Yale locks; Hollon, Gardall and Cobalt safes. Rekeying keeps your lock hardware and just changes which keys work it, which is much cheaper than replacing all the hardware.

KDKey Duplication

We have been copying keys for customers in Atlanta since 1965 and can copy most residential and commercial keys on the market, along with many hard to find ones. You are welcome to send us a picture of the key first to make sure we can do it.

Why take your key to a hardware store? We don't mix paint, but we sure can cut keys, and our machines are adjusted daily. Each copy of a copy drifts further from the original, like a photocopy. In most cases we can decode your key and cut you an original code cut key that works every time.

Key brands we cut:

  • Schlage
  • Sargent
  • Yale
  • Kwikset
  • Corbin
  • Russwin
  • ASSA
  • Medeco
  • Hudson
  • Chicago

Old locks, new locks, door locks, file cabinet locks, master keyed locks, removable core locks: we can key almost everything. You are also welcome to bring locks to our shop for keying.

Commercial grade locks can be expensive, so contact us to see if yours can be repaired before going to the expense of complete replacement.

We are adept at working on cylindrical locks, mortise locks, padlocks, panic bars, lever locks, knob locks and all other commercial locks. We have been repairing locks in Atlanta since 1965, so if it's on your door, chances are we have worked on something similar before.

MKMaster Key Systems

Master key systems and lock rekeys.

We have designed, implemented and maintained keying systems in Atlanta for over 50 years. We handle all your keying needs, from simple Schlage systems to the more difficult removable core systems like Sargent, Best and Corbin/Russwin.

A master key system limits access to designated areas for some people while authorized people keep access everywhere. Simple example: the manager has a key that works all locks in a building, and employees only have keys to their own office. Systems can grow to cover departments, floors and whole buildings, and we will give you real life examples of what we think is the right system for yours.

A growing trend in Atlanta is access control card systems: changes to the whole system are made from a computer screen. The installation price is often higher, but the recurring costs are often lower than maintaining a master key system. See access control.

Key Control Best Practices

A key is worth more than its purchase price: it is worth everything it protects. Good key control gives you accountability, authorization and loss prevention.

Designate Keys (Accountability)

  1. 1.Have all keys properly labeled and identified, usually by stamping a code onto the key. The number should not identify which door it opens in case it is misplaced: instead of "Office 412", use a blind label such as "A2" that can be cross referenced using the master key records.
  2. 2.Keep undistributed keys secure in a key cabinet. Key cabinets help keep a master key system in order.
  3. 3.Keep original code cut keys in the key cabinet, so you always have an original to make duplicates from.

Establish Records (Authorization)

  1. 4.Designate one person accountable for key distribution and authorization.
  2. 5.Make it policy that all keys are company property, returned when the employer deems it necessary, no different than a company laptop or telephone.
  3. 6.Maintain permanent key control records: the key number, door or suite number, the person's name and any other relevant information.
  4. 7.Keep the key control records locked in a fireproof safe or filing cabinet, with access only for authorized system controllers.
  5. 8.Use key control software, or let a professional locksmith keep the records for you.

Emphasize Security (Loss Prevention)

  1. 9.If unauthorized duplication becomes a problem, talk to us about a restricted key system using high security locks and keys made by companies such as ASSA or Medeco.
  2. 10.Limit keys for high turnover positions, including temporary workers: issue a key at the beginning of the shift and collect it at the end.
  3. 11.Never issue the master key to visiting employees, regardless of their position. The only exception is a professional locksmith or security professional onsite to do lock work.
  4. 12.Perform key audits periodically to check on the status of your master key system.
SFSafes

Safe sales, opening and service.

We now only do safe work on a limited basis, as the market has changed over the years and safes are no longer as popular as they once were. We are still able to sell, open and service safes, so please give us a call to discuss your needs.

Things to consider when buying a safe

Fireproof rating
Expressed in hours: how long the safe keeps its internal temperature below 350 degrees. The most common ratings are 1, 2 and 3 hours. Documents may only need a fire rated safe.
Burglary rating
If you plan on keeping jewelry or currency inside, consider the burglary rating as well.
Size
Leave room inside to expand, you will always find more to put in it, and make sure the outside fits the space you have.
Drop / depository safes
Popular with restaurants and retail: drop money in all day without opening the safe.
Data safes
A fire safe will not protect hard drives and USB sticks. Digital media needs a data safe that keeps the inside no hotter than 125 degrees.

How do I pick a locksmith service company?

A few guidelines, geared toward commercial customers but just as relevant at home.

Insurance

Ask for your locksmith's insurance. Any legitimate business will have no problem with this request, and we expect it.

Local business

Pick a local locksmith. National companies often just subcontract the work to local locksmiths. Build your own relationship and you'll get better service and pricing.

Physical location

There are a lot of fly by night locksmith businesses. Pick a company with an established location and visit them if you can.

Size

If you have to wait more than 24 hours for a routine service visit, you are using the wrong vendor. We service over 95% of our calls the very same day.

References

For a big project, ask for references in your category: government, healthcare, banking and so on. We don't mind, we expect it.
